Select International Participating in 2014 Disability Mentoring Day

Pittsburgh, 10.10.14 – Select International, a global employee assessment and hiring solutions provider, will join other Pittsburgh employers by participating in Disability Mentoring Day (DMD) on October 15, 2014.  This is the third year Select International has participated.

     The program, which began in 1999 as National Disability Mentoring Day, gives students with disabilities the opportunity to visit with an employer for a day. Held on the third Wednesday of October, the international event is hosted by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), in collaboration with the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP).  AAPD will launch the national marking of Disability Mentoring Day 2014 in Pittsburgh. In a news release announcing the city’s selection, the AAPD said the county’s commitment to economic equality is among the reasons it selected Pittsburgh for the launch.

     The program, which promotes career development through hands-on activities, job shadowing, and ongoing mentoring, connects nearly 13,000 students and job seekers with disabilities to thousands of employers each year.

     Select International has assembled a team of volunteers to plan a full day for a group of Pine-Richland students.  In addition to taking part in some organized activities, the students will shadow a mentor for part of the day. 

     “This is an event we look forward to all year,” said Paul Glatzhofer, who is serving as Select International’s DMD Team Lead. “It’s rewarding for our staff and we look forward to providing the students with a fun and educational day.”
